Sayaka Ganz was born in Yokohama, Japan and grew up living in Japan, Hong Kong and Brazil, and now lives and works in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Currently she teaches design and drawing courses at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). Using reclaimed plastic household objects as her materials, Sayaka’s recent sculptures depict animals in motion with rich colors and energy. As her artistic side developed, she infused her artwork with these beliefs, using discarded and reclaimed household objects as a medium for her sculptures. Ganz says:
I believe it is very difficult to think far into the future in terms of our ecological foot print. So often our predictions are wrong, and there are not guarantees for anyone’s future. I do not want to condemn the use of plastic or our desire for a more convenient, easier life.I believe the best way for artists to help reduce waste is to show how beautiful these materials can be, and what can be done with these mundane objects and materials. When we think of these things as beautiful, we value them. If we value our resources we will waste less.
What you see here is only a small fraction of her work, you can see much more in her Motion, Displays, and Scrap Metal galleries. You can also see more work on Facebook.
