Sergey Tokarev on educational initiatives launched this summer by Roosh and SET University

Despite the ongoing resistance of Ukraine's people to Russian military aggression, a lot of tech companies and universities are launching various educational programs for Ukrainians this summer. AI HOUSE, SET University, and STEM is FEM are among the leaders in the number of educational initiatives in the field of technology. Sergey Tokarev, a co-founder of these projects, explains in detail how education will be provided.

AI HOUSE creates AI/ML community in Ukraine

A new educational program by AI HOUSE, a project included in the Roosh portfolio, aims to develop the Ukrainian artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) community. According to Sergey Tokarev, Founding Partner at Roosh, the main goal of this project is to provide Ukrainians with an opportunity to learn from world-famous experts in this industry.

For instance, the following experts have already confirmed their participation in the project: Alex Smola (Amazon Web), Gaël Varoquaux (INRIA), Yoshua Bengio (Mila/U. Montreal), and Sébastien Bubeck (Microsoft). During the lectures, the project students will explore the operation principle of AutoML, how to compress models for deep learning and evaluate machine learning models, and more.

The program participants must necessarily donate any amount more than $1 or UAH 10, and the project initiators will send this money to the charity fund Come Back Alive.

STEM is FEM launches IT courses for girls

The non-governmental organization STEM is FEM is launching free online courses for girls aged 12 to 16 who want to choose IT professions for their future careers. The Swiss educational organization Empowerment Lab and Oracle Corporation have joined the initiative. The program comprises 10 courses that will be held for 2 months and will help girls to learn more about ML, master application prototyping skills, and develop data-driven web applications.

As Sergey Tokarev, the founder of the STEM is FEM initiative, notes, the number of female developers at the moment is only 30-35% of the total number of specialists, and the goal of the project is to popularize technical specialties among girls and achieve gender parity in this field. That is why the program organizers took the initiative to educate 150 girls who, during the course, will learn how to apply the acquired skills in their future careers.

Digital security and Bootcamp for startups by SET University

Established in 2021 on the initiative of Sergey Tokarev in partnership with the Kyiv School of Economics, this year, SET University has launched an online cybersecurity platform with helpful resources for both teenagers and their parents. Through this initiative, users can learn how to secure their data and gadgets, which is especially important during wartime, and how to protect themselves from cyberbullying. Besides that, the university offers to master the skills of a cybersecurity specialist.

In August 2022, SET University has also launched another initiative, SET Bootcamp. The educational program is designed for 3 weeks and is aimed at helping startups develop projects that will help Ukraine to boost its economy and recover from the war.
