The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, based on the 1920's short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, discusses a man who ages backwards. In this movie, the elderly Daisy (Cate Blanchett), lying on her deathbed during Hurricane Katrina, has her daughter read a diary written by this mystery man Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt). The film follows the life of the incredible man who happens to have been born with a small problem. He was born in reverse. Benjamin Button was born as an old man and ages in reverse. As his body grows, he gets younger and younger until he eventually dies as a baby.
Based in a retirement home in New Orleans, the audience follows the life of this very odd man and his relationship with his beloved Daisy (Cate Blanchett). It is a classic coming of age story with a slight twist.
The movie itself was ok. The plot seems to drag in spots and also seems stiff in sections. However, despite this the movie is enjoyable for adults. There is a presence of some humor and romance that will keep the audience entertained and intrigued. The movie is long lasting about 3 hours. This movie may not be the best choice for those who have trouble sitting for long periods of time.
This movie is not for children. There is a presence of alcohol, smoking, some language, and some sex. It is also a very thoughtful movie, meaning there may be elements that will go over some younger audience members' heads and will leave them confused for parts of the movie. Be aware of your children before taking them.
This movie will pull your heartstrings and have you revisiting your thoughts on life, death, and aging. With a very somber ending, the audience left the theatre in silence. I quoted one audience member after the movie as saying, "I need a hug now."
I watched The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button online and, I confess, completely free, thanks to the service soap2day. This site is a typical online movie theater where you can watch any content for free, but there are ads on the site. I warned you! Soap2day as a whole I liked it and would recommend adding it to your bookmarks to resort to its services when you run out of Netflix subscriptions.
Receiving several awards, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button is an intellectual movie seen more for thoughtfulness than entertainment. I would suggest it as a movie to go see, with an overall rating of a "B".
